The third edition of the international Spring School on “Science, Religion and Health” took place in the city of Barcelona from 27 to 29 May 2026.
The title of this edition was “Gender, Bodies and Reproductive Health”. The primary aim of the Spring School is to provide a strong theoretical and methodological foundation for early-career researchers conducting social scientific research on the entanglements and boundaries between science, religion, and health. This edition placed special emphasis on how gender and sexual diversity shape, and are shaped by, these intersections.
The Spring School was organized around a combination of public lectures by leading scholars in the field and paper sessions in which participants presented their ongoing research in small groups and received feedback. We welcomed participants from universities across the world, including the United States, India, South Africa, Mexico, and Argentina, as well as applicants working on these themes from a variety of disciplines, including sociology, anthropology, history, religious studies, philosophy, and political science.
This edition was organised by the International Research Network on Science, Religion & Health and the research group ISOR (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) led by Mar Griera, with the support of the research project led by Rosa Martinez-Cuadros, “Health, European Muslims and Gender” (Marie Curie Project).
